The dynamic growth of employment in the business service centres in Katowice

According to the ABSL report “Business Services Sector in the Katowice Agglomeration”, the Agglomeration’s attractiveness for investors from the business services sector grows.

At present the service centres in Katowice and the Katowice Agglomeration owned by Polish and foreign capital employ around 16,500 people.

Taking into account corporate development plans in the Katowice Agglomeration, it can be assumed that by the end of 2020 development in the sector will reach roughly 22,500 individuals.

In the Katowice Agglomeration operate 74 service centres, owned by 64 investors from 14 countries. These are mainly companies from the United States (14) and Polish enterprises (20), but also include corporations from the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Finland, India and Canada. IT services are the main specialization in the Katowice Agglomeration as they generate around 48% of the employment in the sector.

Here invested such companies as: ArcelorMittal, Bombardier, Capgemini, Ericsson, HireRight, IBM, ING, Kroll Ontrack, Mentor Graphics, OEX, Oracle, Perform Media, PwC, Rockwell Automation, Sii, Steria, Teleperformance, Unilever or Wipro.

EPAM, the industry leader in software development in the region of Central and Eastern Europe, has recently opened a new office in Katowice. Within the next few years, the company plans to hire 500 people in Silesia. So far, EPAM has had its branches in three locations in Poland - Krakow, Gdansk and Wroclaw. Currently, the Polish offices of the company employ over 900 people and within next couple of years EPAM plans at least to double this number across Poland. The new office in Katowice is temporarily located in the Revita Park complex. IBM invested in KATOWICE

The new center, which is expected to generate up to 2,000 new jobs, will join IBM's strategic network of IBM delivery centers providing a wide range of IT services, including server operating systems management, security and safety systems, services for end-customers, including maintenance and monitoring of IT hardware and software systems.
